All non-sugar sweeteners I've tried are truly sweet (use less than the amount of sugar the recipe calls for) and the taste at first bite is good. However, they all leave an astringent (日本語で渋い) aftertaste.
Another thing I dislike is that the granulations don't ordinarily dissolve in whatever you cook, so I first soak it in one of the liquid ingredients to dissolve it. If one doesn't do so, the final product tastes gritty.
